Over time, Kubsa has implemented innovations in new designs and reviving ancillary techniques that blend tradition with modern sensibilities.Today, Ilkal continues to evolve, with Kubsa working closely with weavers and artisans from north karnataka to sustain this vibrant tradition. The textile heritage of northern Karnataka has been a constant source of inspiration for Geeta Patil. With Kubsa, she rediscovered fading techniques, motifs, and symbolism—some of which are hundreds of years old and known only to the artisan weavers of the region. This effort came together as an exchange of personal experiences and a shared commitment to preservation.
The Ilkal saree, woven in Ilkal, Karnataka, is celebrated for its distinctive ‘kondi’ interlocking technique, which seamlessly joins a cotton body with a silk pallu. Typically featuring plain or checked cotton body, the saree is distinguished by its red silk pallu adorned with motifs like tope teni (jowar), symbolizing Shakti and devotion to Goddess Banashankari. Handwoven on pit looms, crafting each saree takes 4–5 days and often requires the collaboration of two weavers due to the intricacy involved.
Kubsa has revitalized the Ilkal saree by reintroducing ancillary techniques such as the traditional kondi method. They have also maintained the traditional pairing of a cotton body with a silk pallu, while introducing innovative design explorations. By deconstructing and reconstructing traditional motifs and techniques, Kubsa has reimagined Ilkal sarees in ways that had never been attempted before, creating unique textures and combinations of silk and cotton in the body.

Through Kubsa, she has established a platform for artisans to showcase their skills and creativity, while advancing the mission of creating sustainable livelihoods within the community.
