A new weave of empowerment

Weaving Through Time

Historically renowned for its expansive cotton fields and vibrant textile heritage, Northern Karnataka is home to various weaving communities. However, as the handloom market dwindled over the decades, traditional skills eroded, compelling generations of artisans to seek refuge in power looms and urban centers for unskilled labor.

FOUNDER’S VISION

“I see our crafts not only as a means of cultural expression but also as a channel to empower artisans”

- Geeta Patil

Hailing from this region gave Geeta a profound insight into the legacy of Khana and ilkal textiles and the profound impact of modernization on artisan lives. She found it imperative to infuse new life into these once-popular textiles worn by women across northern Karnataka and Maharashtra. She firmly believes that crafts through responsible design intervention can change the socio-economic landscape of this region.

Interlacing tradition with modernity

At Kubsa, we acknowledge the power of textiles as a canvas for showcasing local culture, seamlessly blending the expertise of traditional artisans with contemporary design.

To us, each handmade textile isn't just a connection to tradition; it's a platform for artisans to embrace their heritage and aspirations.

Threads of Pride

In our continued engagement with artisans, creating thoughtful handcrafted textiles for those who embrace the philosophy of handmade, we seek to bridge the world of rural skilled craftsmanship with the patronage of textile-connoisseurs. Each Kubsa creation is thus a tribute - a story of revival and an amplified voice for rural economic empowerment and the dignity of skilled artisans.

Our purpose will be exalted if it restores the artisanal pride.
